Koh Racha Yai, also known as Raya Island, lies about 12 kilometres south of Chalong Bay and is one of the most popular day-trip and dive destinations reachable from Phuket. The island's main bay on the western shore — Ao Batok — is a textbook tropical anchorage with powdery white sand, coconut palms, and water ranging from turquoise in the shallows to deep blue further out. Visibility is consistently excellent, and the bay is surrounded by coral reef that supports a rich variety of marine life including leopard sharks, sea turtles, and diverse reef fish. Speedboats from Chalong Pier reach the island in about 45 minutes. Several dive operators base live-aboard and day trips here. Accommodation is available on the island, making it a pleasant overnight or multi-day escape from Phuket.
