Layan Beach lies at the quiet northern end of Bang Tao Bay, separated from the main stretch of beach by a small tidal estuary. The beach is backed by casuarina trees and faces a sheltered lagoon that makes it one of the calmest swimming spots on Phuket's west coast, particularly popular with families. Kayaks can be launched directly into the lagoon. The surrounding area is home to some of Phuket's most private and exclusive villas and resorts, including the ultra-luxury Iniala Beach House. The estuary attracts wading birds and the mangroves behind the beach are a habitat for monitor lizards and kingfishers. The beach sees relatively few day visitors and retains a genuine sense of seclusion. Sunset views are among the most peaceful on the island, with virtually no development visible across the bay.
