Phang Nga Bay is one of Southeast Asia's most celebrated natural landscapes, a 400-square-kilometre bay studded with more than 40 limestone karst islands rising dramatically from calm green-grey water. The bay sits northeast of Phuket in Phang Nga Province and is accessible by speedboat, longtail, or sea kayak from several piers. Iconic landmarks include James Bond Island — officially Khao Phing Kan — which appeared in The Man with the Golden Gun in 1974, the stilt village of Koh Panyee, and the series of hongs or enclosed sea caves that can only be accessed by kayak at certain tides. The bay is part of a protected national park and the water remains relatively clean. Day tours from Phuket are widely available, as are longer sea kayaking expeditions exploring the more remote inner passages of the bay.
