Promthep Cape is Phuket's southernmost point and its most iconic sunset location, a rugged granite headland jutting into the Andaman Sea from the island's southern tip. The cape offers an unobstructed 180-degree view across the open ocean, and at peak season the clifftop viewpoint fills with visitors gathering in the final hour before sunset. A small lighthouse, shrine, and a lighthouse museum are located on the headland. The cape has been a navigational landmark for centuries; historical records suggest it was used by Portuguese explorers as early as the 16th century. The road approaching the cape passes through Nai Harn village and the Nai Harn Lake, and the walk along the headland's edge provides views south toward Koh Bon and Koh Hae. Parking fills quickly around sunset; arriving 45 minutes early is recommended during high season.
