Koh Racha Yai, commonly known as Raya Island, is a popular island destination approximately 12 kilometres south of Phuket, accessible by speedboat from Chalong Pier in around 45 minutes. The island's main bay, Ao Batok, is a classic tropical setting of white sand, clear turquoise water, and fringing coral reef, consistently rated among the finest beaches reachable on a day trip from Phuket. Snorkeling directly from the beach is excellent, with healthy coral and a resident population of sea turtles visible in the shallows. Several smaller bays around the island's coastline offer further snorkeling and diving. The island has accommodation ranging from simple bungalows to boutique resort villas, making it a viable overnight or multi-day destination. Dive operators base both day trips and beginner certification courses here due to the good visibility and calm conditions.
